Prof Ndaliman is the New National Chairman Elect as NIMechE-elects first female Deputy National chairman

A professor of mechanical Engineering and managing Director at Scientific Equipment Development Institute, SEDI, an institute of NASENI, prof Mohammed Baba Ndaliman is now the NIMechE National Chairman Elect following successful International Conference and Annual General meetings of the Institution in Yenagoa, Bayelsa.

In the same vein, the Institution elected her new Deputy National Chairman in person of Engr Funmilade Atinuke Akingbagbohun who becomes the first elected Female in that capacity. Others elected at the event are Engr Peter Ingbinankobo, the immediate past Chairman of Abuja Chapter and Engr. Abulimen as national Exco member .. There  will be by-election to fill some vacant positions in the coming International Conference of Nigerian Society of Engineers, in Kano.

NIMechE under the outgoing National Chairman, Dr. Robinson Ejilah,  whose tenure will end in December 2019, had embarked on various institutional reforms and invested massively in laying a foundation for the net 15 years to conform to global standard.

In partnership with Royal Academy of Engineering and Engineers Against Poverty, to conform with international best practice, it has developed GENDER, EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION DRAFT POLICY DOCUMENT, making it the first to produce such document among professional bodies in Nigeria.

Professor Mohammed Baba Ndaliman is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Minna. Prof. Ndaliman began his academic and research career the Federal University of Technology, Minna in 1991, after a brief stint as Management trainee with the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria, Sokoto. He rose through the wrungs of academic ladder to the exalted position of Professor on the effective date of October 2017, though officially announced on the 18th April, 2018.

He is at present, on secondment as the Managing Director, Scientific Equipment Development Institute, Minna- a mono-mandate development institute that was established by National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to provide science infrastructure and equipment for capacity building in areas such as electrical engineering to foundry technology, and develop engineering designs and disseminate same to SMEs in order to standardize Nigerian made products and make them globally competitive.

Born October 3, 1963, in Bida, Niger State, he is a world class intellectual and design specialist, enlisted in the pre-eminent directory of Marquis Who’s Who in the World, 2014 edition. In 2014, he received global citations in the redoubtable pages of International Biographical Centre, England, as one of the world’sTop100 Engineers and Leading Professionals of the World, culminating in his declaration as 2014 Man of The Year.

Distinguished in Nigeria and abroad, as a doctoral student in International Islamic University, Malaysia, he won an award as the Best PhD Student in Engineering, in 2014. His studentship in Nigeria was no less impressive and memorable; as an undergraduate at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, he received Iwuanyanwu Foundation’s Nigerian Silver Jubilee Scholars Award, in 1985, and Nigerian Breweries Prize for the Best Mechanical Engineering Graduate, in 1990.

In 2012, he won two silver medals at a research exhibition and enriched his resume still more with two silver and one bronze medals at two different research exhibitions, in 2013. Among his many award winning technological inventions are cassava grating machine, manually operated juice extractor, an improved wood stove, development of insulating refractory bricks from local clays in Nigeria, etc.

He was educated in the following schools: Ndayako Primary School (Jan, 1972-July, 1978), Government College, Bida (Oct, 1978-Dec, 1980), Government Science College, Kutigi (Jan, 1981-June, 1983), Federal University of Technology, Minna (Feb, 1984-Jan, 1990), University of Ilorin (Jan, 1992-Dec, 1995), and International Islamic University, Malaysia (June, 2010-Dec, 2013). The crowning glories from his academic pursuits include WASC/GCE (passed with seven credits), B.Eng, M.Eng, and PhD (in Manufacturing Engineering).

His scholarly works have been published worldwide, in respected journals in Malaysia, Australia, India, and Nigeria, and on the e-platform, ‘www.scientific.net’. He is a reviewer to many local and international journals, such as the International Journal of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Journal of Petroleum and Gas Exploration Research, WebPub Journal of Scientific Research, World Journal of Engineering and Physical Sciences, etc.

Destined to be a leader, he was a senior prefect at Government Science College. Kutigi, Corps Liaison Officer during his NYSC days, Ag HOD, Mechanical Engineering, FUT, Minna, and Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Minna chapter.  chairman Nigerian Society of Engineers, Minna Branch and now the National chairman of Nigerian Institution  of mechanical Engineers. He is a member of the following professional associations: Nigerian Society of Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN), and Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He is also a certified national trainer, CEFE Entrepreneurial Methodology.

Engr Funmi Akingbagbohun is currently the Chairman of NSE Ikeja Branch. She had served as Chairman of NIMechE Lagos Chapter, National Treasurer APWEN among other national posts she had held while serving various Engineering and Built professionals bodies. Professionally she is a Senior Engineer at Lagos State broadcasting Corporation. She is a fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers and NIMechE
